About this event

KEEPING SUNDAY OUT OF SCHOOLS: Protecting Classrooms from Christian Nationalism
with best-selling author, Dr. Randall Balmer, and Dr. Keri Ladner

Why has public education come under attack? What changed? Does our First Amendment's establishment clause still provide protection for our public schools? Who’s driving the agenda to dismantle our public schools and what can we do to protect them?

Join Dr. Randall Balmer and Dr. Keri Ladner for an engaging evening as they unravel the history behind the push to weave Christian nationalist theology into public schools including posting the Ten Commandments in classrooms, mandatory school prayer, and weaving Bible stories into school curriculum. Today, Christian nationalists have unprecedented access to power... and we have a valuable window of opportunity to secure the future of our local public schools.

Dr. Balmer, a New York Times bestselling author and Episcopal priest, serves as the John Phillips Professor in Religion at Dartmouth College. He's published more than a dozen books including his most recent New York Times bestseller, America's Best Idea: The Separation of Church and State.

Dr. Keri Ladner is a member of FUMC Denton. An author and researcher known for her work on the theological roots of the Religious Right, Keri holds a PhD in Divinity from the University of Edinburgh. Her most recent book is American Dominion: The Rise and Radicalization of a New Christendom.

Both Dr. Balmer's and Dr. Ladner's books will be available for purchase.
