Center for Women in Politics & Public Policy
This fall, the Center for Women in Politics and Public Policy at TWU will be offering workshops on helping citizens feel confident when advocating. With the legislative session opening in January, now is the time to prepare for effective advocacy. These workshops will be offered in a hyflex format, allowing anyone from the state to attend.
CWPPP offers scholarships for women registered full-time in Texas colleges and universities who wish to attend PLEN, a public policy leadership training. There are two fall training sessions: one in DC and one virtually. The scholarships are open to both undergraduate and graduate students.

Advocacy Basics: What's Your Message?
September 14th from 7 to 8:30 p.m. (in person or virtual)
We know you have something to say about what's going on in politics today. With elections coming up and the next legislative session around the corner, it's time to think about how to advocate for the issues important to you. You have a story. You have a passion. You have an educational network at your fingertips. Come learn how to take those strengths and make them into a message. Aurora Harris, Southern Regional Director for Young Invincibles, will be leading this hands-on workshop on crafting a message for policymakers.

Now that you've planned your message, what background research do you need to be persuasive and knowledgeable? How do you integrate this information when you deliver your message and answer questions? Tanya Lavelle, MPAff, will be leading the first half of this workshop, discussing techniques to know when and how to speak to legislators and policymakers to have the best outcomes. Immediately following, we will offer breakout rooms based on areas of policy likely to be of interest to Texans: voting rights, reproductive rights, healthcare access, and more. Ms. Lavelle is the Policy Specialist for the Housing, Transportation and Disaster Team Disability Rights Texas.

PLEN - Health Policy Seminar

The Center for Women in Politics & Public Policy (CWPPP) is pleased to extend the opportunity for women enrolled in colleges and universities across Texas to attend the Public Leadership Education Network (PLEN) Health Policy seminar. The CWPPP will provide scholarships to pay the seminar registration fees, program fees, airfare, and hotel for up to three students. Students may be undergraduate or graduate students, and may be from any major or program. This three-day educational seminar discusses current issues in the health field, builds professional skills, and creates networking opportunities with women leaders on the front lines of policy-making. Students will learn how to leverage their academic knowledge to influence health policy, make an impact in the legislative and political processes, explore hot-button issues on Capitol Hill, and expand their professional networks in Washington, DC and beyond.

The Center for Women in Politics & Public Policy (CWPPP) is pleased to extend the opportunity for women enrolled in colleges and universities across Texas to attend the Public Leadership Education Network (PLEN) seminar WOCIW. The CWPPP will provide scholarships to pay the seminar registration and program fees for up to five students. PLEN brings together a diverse group of students from around the country for a two-day educational seminar to learn how to leverage their academic knowledge to influence policymakers and programs. Students will hear from a powerful network of women of color who make and influence public policy every day, from lobbying to working on a committee to heading government relations for a business.
